By ordering "characterful" planks from Brooks sawmill in Cochrane (http://brookssawmill.com/), we began one of the main projects in building The Boar. We used the truck to collect the planks since there was no way to fit 20-foot planks in the Volvo or on a trailer. Once back at our campsite, we unloaded the planks through the window and arranged a setup that allowed us to work on them, protected from the sun and the occasional evening rain. Then we started to use a grinder w

Week 1, Dec 19 - Dec 26 2025 leaving home on our way to friends in Montana who we haven't seen in a few years. The border crossing was a story in itself as we were "flagged" according to the border patrol and were send on our way one and a half hour later, with some brochures how to find out, or change what was going on so we wont have any issue with next border crossings. Starting with our sticker at the beginning of the trip. (New signs have been erected ilately though, so

In the end, we headed for Mexico Baja (the blogs are being worked on), stopping in Ogden, Utah, Where another surplus is, to see whether they had heard of this wobbling previously. The rod ends was their answer. Since everything is cheaper in Mexico (a huge error) and we are traveling there, let us handle it there. Since we had traveled more than 10,000 kilometers in Ogden UT we needed to swap the tires again, however because of the strong wind, being on a jack didn't seem li

I always imagined an off-road expedition vehicle with military tires when I first got the idea to create one. Years ago, I discovered a surplus of military tires in the East of Canada while conducting research online. One of the attendants at an overland show in British Columbia informed me that he bought the tires straight from the manufacturer. My search for military rims and tires had begun. I could not have had them deliver to my house because I live in a tiny town. You

Matt & Matt from T&M Fabrication (https://www.tmfabweld.ca/home) did an excellent job fabricating a mount for the stabilizer bar I designed. They also provided assistance where I made errors. Thank you so much for accommodating my last-minute requests! The stabilizer bar from RED RAM PARTS (https://www.redramtruck.ca/) with the saddles for the frame was next. New mounts for the stabilizer bar needed to be designed and manufactured because the original mounts could not be reus

On our trip to Mexico, we find out that one side(passenger side) is 1 inch lower then the driver side. Clearly something is either not aligned or... In Auburn WA we find a suspension companie(https://gittspring.com/) for trucks where we can make time to investigate. They are telling us we need (both) new front springs as they are worn out, and one leafspring is sagging. However we have to be back in Canada in 5 day's due to the insurance we use. Unfortunately we have to stop

https://rancholabellota.com/ Remember Rancho La Bellota and Raoul? The final week in Baja, we were back there and had planned for the next round of painting. We had someone in Canada (Thanks Ryan) design a drawing for us of what we would have on a side. We told him what we wanted in there and he made a cohesive design out of that. Jolanda - Always wanted a rocking chair with view on the mountains and a glass of wine, a tree as she likes them as well. As she always was our lat

Getting back to building The Boar, some of you might have noticed the change of color. We were always to planning to do so but with a little different time frame. But first we have to explain a little more to that story. As it took us 3 days to get into Mexico, denied at the first border(too big) they took pictures and all from the inside, clearly set up for living in it. Still we had to turn around. Second, was where the first one send us turned us around to the commercial s

the black dots behind us, is where we were waiting for 4 days here. The release of hatched leatherback turtles. Finaly time for the town itself. We were told that this hotel was the inspiration for The Eagles song. The beginning of the Camino Cabo Este, a gravel/ sand route of 150 km along the east coast. See you next blog.

We've been steady for over a week a little outside of La Paz at Playa El Tecolote. Enjoying the sun, beach, water and other people. When crossing through La Paz, we right away went for the boulevard and the centre of town, an met an old friend; Jacques Cousteau. The cathedral of La Paz This morning I knew it would be high, High Tide... So I was checking around 06:30 what was happening; See you next blog!

It does NOT show properly how steep and small it was... We had read about Agua Verde and didn't think much about the journey there... But after 10 kilometers of asphalt and 10 kilometers of gravel, you make the turn, and THEN it's TOO late! You have to descend all the way to San Cosme. After that, there's still 10 kilometers to Agua Verde. It starts off easy and flat, then goes over another mountain with steep and winding roads. As someone who is a bit afraid of heights, I me

Hello readers, We'd like to update how we are doing and what. Our retirement has started, and we have become snowbirds and therefore we are traveling South. We'd like to show some of those pictures for you and document them for ourselves. The "build articles" will continue as well, just in a different way. I am not sure if I will bring stories as well as photo's, we have to wait what I decide to do and how it feels to tell you. Our phones are NOT working as we have a Canadia
